Getting busy….learning and growing

Well they say that the only photographer you should ever compare yourself to is the one you used to be. Great advice. The onslaught of social media, online workshops, youtube videos, and blogs, tutorials and even Tiktok videos teaching you how to ‘edit like a pro, photograph light filled photos, and capture the moment’ has left me feeling a bit behind. My goal has always been to take the best photo, in the best natural light, with the least amount of editing and filters necessary. I love photos that are real, a tear, a tired mom, wrinkles…a face that tells a story.

I started my photography career almost 20 years ago, and still love it and love the endless opportunities for growth. If I had to define my style it would be “real”. Candids are always my favorite and the reason that I frequently shoot with a 70-200mm lens. For the first ten years of my career I photographed lacrosse games. Publishers wanted photos that captured the players eyes, his jersey number, the ball and the essence of the play. After that anything is easy, families, animals, two year olds…piece of cake!

I love what I do, and it is an honor to be a small part of so many special moments in peoples’ lives. If I could have one wish it would be that people would realize how unique, beautiful and amazing they are. God’s creations, knit together by His hand, with His eye upon us. What a difference it would make in a person’s life if he (well, she, it’s always a she) could really appreciate that!
